Huetar Basket Weaving with Esmeralda Sánchez Pérez

Discover the ancestral art of Huetar basketry in this hands-on workshop led by Esmeralda Sánchez Pérez, a native Huetar artisan and cultural tradition-bearer. Using natural fibers such as estococa and tule, participants will learn step by step how to weave a traditional basket measuring approximately 10 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height.

This workshop is open to ages 6 and up (including older adults) and is designed for beginners—no prior experience required. Together, we’ll preserve and celebrate the artistry of the Huetar people while creating a basket to take home.
